Help Now

And when they thought it wouldn’t get worst they saw something walking toward them on the water. As is the case with the human psyche the disciples thought the form on the water to be a specter from the past; so many other things in the night appeared ghostly; the veiled cloud covered moon, the milky tips of the rising waves; the ghastly expressions of each disciple imagining momentary death. The howling of the wind gave voice to their inner suspicions. Yet, the voice of peace penetrated through the morbid assumptions. Jesus spoke to them in the storm. Isn’t it nice to know that you have someone to speak to you in the storm? And if you don’t then it’s just another reason why you need to know Jesus. Think about it. If they had no knowledge of the man then the voice would have no meaning.

If you were one of those fishermen on the wind tossed boat and you had never met Jesus, what difference would it have made for Jesus to say, “Be not afraid it is I.” Their metabolism of fear had been feasting on the obvious circumstances of wave and wind without gaining an ounce of confidence. And then Jesus brought it to a screeching halt; fear was shut down and faith reborn. The weight of God’s word needs no humanistic dietary plan shedding truth pounds for compromise thinness. It will always be the perfect size for any storm. And in this storm the disciples were eventually thankful to hear that comforting voice.
