You Can't Get There from Here

Gen 13:14  And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:

Gen 13:15  For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.

Gen 13:16  And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.

Gen 13:17  Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.

1. If you walk where God wants you to walk you won’t have to try and get power or possessions on your own. He will just give it to you. You see, possessions possess our purpose when we try to walk in our own ambition. But when your steps are ordered of the Lord he guides us to places we could never get to on our own. Lot philosophy is, go where you can be your best in the world. Abraham philosophy, wait on the Lord and let him lead you to the very best of His World.

2. It wasn’t until Lot was separated from Abraham that God spoke to the Patriarch about his directions and destiny. Is it possible that some of your dreams are being delayed because of a Lot mentality? Is God waiting for you to lay aside the sin and weight that so easily besets your soul, so He can speak clearly to you? Are you failing to hear God’s inspiring, accurate coordinates to life-success, spiritual freedom, and guiltless enjoyment? My friend, separate the Lot from your life; meaning, sever the ties to temptations that would keep you from obeying the truth; cut away the ropes of rebellion that keep you attached to feelings, thoughts, and ambitions of the world, for these things hinder your true and pure self from being for God what you could be.

3. Abraham was encouraged to see what was coming from his present place. Think about it. The place where you are now is not the end, and most likely is not the beginning. It’s just a place. A good place. A bad place. A desert place. Or maybe a scenic place. But from that place you can see where God wants you to be. You can know that God doesn’t want you to stay in that place. He wants you to grow in His grace. He wants you to be redeemed from your regrets. He want you to discover what is North of your needs, south of your suffering, west of your worries, and east of your anxieties. Whatever you do, my friend, don’t stay where you are; whether good or bad. Journey with Jesus. Take a step of faith. You won’t regret every step of faith you take with the Lord. Because where he leads you is always better than where you’ve been; even though there may be temporary storms you have to endure, or momentary setbacks that challenge your tenacious resolve.
